Getting a useful backup camera to upgrade your R vehicles is worth the investment. The Backup Cam gives you added protection and a tool for convenience.

As an RV owner, you often spend time in RV parks and campgrounds, where there are a lot of things that may obstruct the driveway. It’s easy to navigate forward, but it’s a real challenge to go on the contrary. What we love about a backup camera is it lets you see what’s going on several feet behind the RV.

It comes handy on the road because it gives you a heads up whenever you are changing lanes. It lessens the probability of an accident. On the other hand, if you are still new in driving, it helps improve your driving skills.

If that sounds great to you, then you should check out the backup camera products we listed here, starting with our preferred products. It is always best to review the product you want to purchase for your RV.

20 Best RV Backup Camera Reviews

Here is a list of the other RV backup cameras you may want to know that may be compatible with your R Vehicles.

Overview

The honest best electronic wireless backup camera is one of the best cams in the market for RVs. This model uses an electronic broadcast signal that can transmit in a distance of up to 60ft with no interference. You can travel as fast as 110mph and expect no distorted IMG.

The cam comes with a 7″ monitor with two different mounting brackets; one for the dashboard and the other for the windshield of your RV. The monitor has a second cam provision and a split-screen feature to view both at the same time.

The installation process is easy. You can connect the monitor to the cigarette plug for power supply. The cam requires a system voltage of 12v – 24v, anything higher may damage the camera. If you want the camera to display on the monitor only during reverse, you can hook it on the different light.

We recommend this for you if you are particular to IMG quality. It emits a steady and vibrant picture during the day and a clear view during the night and is one of the cams with the widest viewing angle.

PROS

CONS

  • Able to view two cams
  • Highest waterproof rating
  • Perfect for night vision
  • Possible interference
  • Limited to large automobiles
  • Lose antenna

What we love about it

Durable

You can use your RVs on any day because the camera can withstand environmental strains. It has an IP69K waterproof rating. It is also fog resistant.

Dual Cam

You can put a combination of a rear view camera and an additional wing cam. The other cam is not wirelessly connected; you need to wire it to the display monitor.

IMG flip

You can switch the IMG to Normal Facing or Back mirror, but I don’t find any good use for the flip oriented spec.

Adjustable contrary guideline

You can turn the contrary guidelines on or off. Once you mount the cam, you might want to adjust the view to maximize the distance coverage. The cam viewpoint may affect the guidelines, you may be close to the object behind you, but in reality, you’re not.

You can make a few adjustments until you reach the most comfortable position for the guidelines, you can move it from left to right and even adjust the height, so you don’t have to change the cam manually.

Night vision

The cam comes with a 12 Infrared LED that helps you see images even during the night. The cam has a premium CCD Sensor Easy to hook up to combat bad weather.

Things they can improve

There are two things that we notice after some time of use. First, the signal is prone to interference from other devices. Second, you may encounter some glitching, better check your power supply. Customer services are very responsive, though, but we’d appreciate it if the cam already comes with a bigger wire for the power supply.

Overview

The Emmako Electronic Wireless backup camera has a high definition resolution. The signal range of this model is 50ft with no interference and has a 12ft extension wire for the antenna. The backup camera has a frame with a hood that protects it from the reflection of the sun.

The monitor is a 7″ TFT display, which means the monitor screen consumes less power compared to other products. The display resolution is at 960p with a split-screen function and auto-dimming. It can accommodate up to two backup cams only.

The fitting process is simple, but this model does come with a set of directions showing how to do the setup.

The Emmako wireless backup camera is the best backup camera if you drive a large automobile because you can surround your RVs with cams to remove all blind spots. We recommend this model for you if you are looking for a high definition cam that can assist you during the drive but can record the events around you when you’re sitting idly around the camp. It’s a plug and uses the gadget, so this is for you if you don’t like to bother yourself lining up a wire and assembling devices.

PROS

CONS

  • Easy Installation
  • Video Recording
  • Complete kit
  • Permanent mounting
  • Expensive

What we love about it

Split Screen ability

It has Split screen ability with two cams, and you can add a 2nd electronic wireless cam to the current screen (CH2).

Adjustable contrarying guideline

You can turn the reverse camera guidelines on or off and switch between the back view/side view/front view depending on where a second cam is mounted.

IMG Flip

You can switch the IMG into four different modes of Normal Facing / Back Mirror / Mirror UpsideDown/Facing Upside Down.

Night vision

Upgraded HD Backup camera with 13 LED IR Night Vision, Clear imaging, and it has the function of infrared induction. When the light is dark, the lamp will automatically turn on.

Things they can improve

Even electronic wireless cams have issues when it comes to interference. Most of the time, you can fix it through the antenna, but it’s somewhat challenging because the installation/directions manual lacks information. Maybe they can give a more detailed manual.

Overview

This brand is a cutting edge product that runs in electronic wireless technology. The cam offers high definition resolution, motion detect, infrared night vision, and a 120-degree wide viewing angle.

The cam comes with a 7″ touch screen monitor at a resolution of 720p, and it comes with a power supply cable, lightweight with anti-glare features. Also, they include two mounting brackets for the screen: a windshield mount and an interior table stand.

The installation process is pretty easy; you need to drill holes on the RV surface to attach the shark fin cam while the screen has a bullet slot where the dot bullet of the bracket goes.

The FOS07TASF Vision S Wireless Automobile Observation System was designed to impress you. We recommend this for you if you are looking for a cam that offers more than the usual specs, such as motion detection and built-in microphone. It’s best if you are an owner of Large RVs who don’t mind spending more on high technology products.

PROS

CONS

  • Touchscreen display
  • Night vision mode

What we love about it

Night vision; good for a camp trip

The spec that this brand takes pride in is the vision S technology. It gives coverage of 40ft of clear, precise, and sharp video, even in complete darkness. The cam has eight infrared and IR cut filters that allow you to see, even in the middle of the night.

HD touchscreen display

Another favorite spec is the screen; it lets you navigate through the system options through a touch screen, which is even better with button-operated screens. You can quickly look for the function you want instead of pushing the buttons many times before you can make adjustments.

Motion detect

The motion detect activates your display if there is any movement near your automobile. So, it serves as a backup assistant and a security cam.

Mic

When your cam is activated, you can hear the noise outdoors. It comes handy when reversing parking because you’re aware if someone is calling out or if there is an oncoming automobile.

Long-range Signal strength

The cam uses 2.4GHz digital wireless technology that provides a clear IMG with no interference. The signal transmission range of up to 492 ft when parked and still works for 50 ft at high speeds.

Durability

The cam is rated at IP65 for waterproof capabilities and also resists damage by outside elements exposure. The Vision S Cam System is ideal for travel trailers, 5th wheels, or commercial trucks.

Things they can improve

The product is no doubt advanced but always for a price, and you still have to buy a few more accessories before you can make it work. I guess the IMG is not that vibrant and sharp, but it’s just fair, not what you expect for an expensive unit.

Overview

The cam can transmit images from 100ft. You can drive as fast as 75 miles per hour and still expect the device to work perfectly.

The cam comes with a 7″ screen display with advanced IPS technology, meaning it has a faster response and avoids transmission delays. The screen also turns on automatically and dims when not in use.

It’s effortless to install; you just plug the screen to the cigarette plug for power supply, the cam voltage ranges from 12V – 24V DC power.

The ZEROXCLUB Digital Wireless backup camera is a very straightforward design. We recommend this for you if you only need one cam with perfect night vision specs and stable wireless transmission.

Things they can improve

Overall, it’s one to choose, but we wish the manufacturer can offer a warranty so show some confidence with their product.

Overview

The package comes with a 720p camera, metal housing, with a cam magnet mount. The cam frame has a visor that protects it from the reflection of the sun. It has a high IMG output both for daytime and nighttime display.

All other specs are average, so you are spending a reasonable price even if you are on a tight budget, and you don’t need a sharp image during the night. It has a versatile application so that you can use it even on large automobiles, and you have the option to upgrade it because it can handle up to four cams.

Type of RVs Backup Cameras

You need to be familiar with several types of RV backup cameras for RVs. Each has a unique characteristic that determines if it’s compatible with your R vehicles. Refer to the following options and narrow down which type will best suit your RV.

Wireless Cam

Wireless RVs backup cameras are easy to install, most of the time, you need to plug your power cord into the DC inside your RV.

Typically, the camera comes with a display screen that you can easily plug into the cigarette outlet. You can use a bracket to mount it on the dashboard, or if a suction cup mount is available, you can hang it on the windshield.

Wireless cameras are a useful option if you see yourself moving the backup camera to another automobile or if you are renting one, you want a chance to uninstall it quickly.

A common issue that you may encounter is the signal reception. It depends on the product you will get, but there are interference tendencies when it comes to a wireless connection.

Wired Backup Cam

Wired RVs backup cameras are more reliable in terms of signal. You don’t have to worry about the length or range of the camera, as long as the wire is long enough to connect to the display, you will have no issue in terms of interference.

Wireless RV backup cameras might appear more edgy and advanced, but it costs less than the wired because wired offers more stability than wireless.

The disadvantage of a wired camera is the wires, it can be the length, the size or it may obstruct your view while driving. Sometimes it will be difficult to hide the cables, but you can avoid that if you hire a professional to do it. They are more challenging to install, but remember that you only have to do it just once.

Box Cam

Box cameras are the most popular type of camera. You can easily mount it. The average field view of a box camera goes more than 120 degrees. It has a visor that serves as glare protection and waterproof housing.

Models like this have infrared and night vision LED housing. It also gives a grid line that guides you on how farther you are from the space or object behind you.

Some of the gadget models come with a dual camera, making it possible for you to use one camera to view the trailer hitch and the other in seeing down the road.

License Plate Cam

It has a full-frame that attaches to the license frame.’ If you’re a bit skeptical about drilling holes on your RVs body or you don’t want to make any significant modification, you should get a license plate camera. It hides the camera well, and it mounts to the existing license mount screw of your plate.

It has a high res CCD IMG sensor. The most versatile aspect of cameras in this type is the application.

  • It can fit any automobile.
  • It has a low profile version that will not cover the license plate.
  • The only drawback is it adapts the height of the license plate.
  •

Bumper Cam

You might want to check if your RV has a provision for a bumper camera. If your RV is a new model, you’ll likely find a slot with a removable piece where the camera goes. Compared to the old that you still have to drill the camera for installation.

Wing View Cam

If you have a significantly large automobile, it’s no secret that large automobiles have blind spots. Wing camera will aid you when you’re changing lanes. It comes excellent with a rear view camera and a screen that splits.

Dashboard Cam

If you take long rides or maybe you use the RVs very often, it’s a great idea to have a dashboard camera that allows you to record everything that’s happening ahead of you.

There are many traffic regulations and a waste of time investigations that you can prevent if you have any video evidence of what happened.

Even when you’re not driving, it gives you a sense of security because it discourages vandalism or theft.

There is a dual swiveling camera that allows you to record the inner part. This camera works well if you use your RV like uber.

Surface-mounted Cam

You can mount this device on a flat surface. We advise that you mount it high up for optimum advantages, adjust it to your most comfortable depth perception.

These kinds of cameras usually come with its bracket and an easy installation process. This mount is ideal for more substantial automobiles such as SUVs, Jeeps, and hatchbacks.

Flush-mounted Cam

If you like to place your camera more discreetly, you can pot to a flush-mounted camera, where the lens and the bezel are the only parts exposed. You can choose an ideal location and drill a hole. Since it’s hidden, you protect the camera from the harsh elements and the weather.

The drawback of this application is it lacks the visual depth you get compared to a surface-mounted camera because you cannot place it too high. Overall, This is for RVs owners who don’t mind the view as long as it helps to look for something sleek.

Benefits of RVs Backup Cam Unit

The truth is some areas do not require a backup camera. Still, we choose having one because the amount you spend is non-comparable if something unfortunate happens, you can prevent it if you own one.

Here are some of the benefits:

Night Vision

The night vision spec is essential, especially to RVs owners who go on a long camp trip. The spec allows you to dodge a terrible accident that might happen when you are on the road. The camera comes handy during a camping trip where there are many obstructions or left belongings behind the truck.

Ease in Parking

Once you upgrade your recreational vehicle with a backup camera, you’ll find parking on the contrary very easy. Some people are comfortable using their wing mirrors on the contrary, but I still find the backup camera handy to see if there are any obstructions and to check how close I am to a car or a post at the back.

It will save the person you’re with the trouble of stepping out of the truck to guide you, so we must recommend this spec if you drive alone on a camp trip.

Weatherproof

If you are going to invest in a camera, we recommend that you get a waterproof model. The waterproof feature is vital because the backup camera is exposed the entire time. It has to be capable of dealing with any change in temperature or weather.

Your camera will last long enough to get your money’s worth. Weatherproof cameras cost a little bit more, but you won’t have to bring it in for a repair issue every time or worse buy a new one.

Prevents Minor Scratches

Being aware of your surroundings and limiting your blind spots will save you from scratches because of the underestimated distance of your RV to a post or a tree.

If you decide to buy a backup camera that serves as a recorder, you can use the recorded videos as supporting evidence in an accident wherein the damage of the car is not your fault. You can use it to claim insurance. Some insurance companies give a discount for their clients who have security and safety equipment installed like a backup camera.

Safety

It’s to have eyes at the back when driving a large automobile. You may find this most useful when you are on the freeway, with the backup camera you can monitor how far a car is from you if you want to change lanes. It benefits emergency automobiles like the ambulance because you can see them coming, and you can immediately make way for them.

Another instance that a backup camera may be of help is when you are leaving a parking space, and you are parking facing the wall. Sometimes pedestrians are not aware that you are about to move, and suddenly they cross behind you.

It’s nice to have a screen at the back to confirm and see if they are aware of your presence or they have crossed already.

Eliminate Blindspots

Some backup cameras offer a multiplex connector. And a split camera display. Meaning you can connect two or more cameras at the same time, usually a back camera and two wing cameras. The camera will eliminate the blind spots of large RV’s

It Has a Complete Kit

When you purchase a camera, some have all the accessories you need to set up the camera: the backup camera, screen, receiver, transmitter, antennas, power plug, bolts and nuts, and mounting brackets.

If you are not very technical, buy a complete kit so you don’t have to spend extra time and money purchasing accessories that may or may not be compatible with the camera.

Frequently Asked Questions

What to Look for When Buying an RV Backup Camera

In searching for the best backup camera for your R vehicles, you must know all the factors you need to know. We laid down some tips, so you know if it’s best for your situation.

Types

If you have no idea which type you are going after, you should know that there are two types of RV backup cameras, the standalone backup camera and the camera with a dedicated screen.

The standalone backup camera

If your RV has a built-in GPS navigator located at the dash, you can use that as a screen display. Connect the backup camera, using an HDMI connector.

The backup camera with a dedicated screen

In some instances, the built-in screen in the RV is not compatible with the camera, or the current display is not good. If that’s the case, then it’s practical to buy a backup camera with a dedicated screen.

Among these two, we recommend you going after the backup camera with a dedicated screen or a complete set to ensure compatibility and proper pairing of devices.

Review the Video Quality

Knowing what’s going on behind your RV gives you a sense of relief when you need to back up a little. Having a backup camera with a fuzzy display does not fulfill its purpose. That’s why video quality is one of the things you need to look at when buying an RV cam.

There are many related components you may want to look at while checking the video quality apart from the screen display. You should check for the receiver cables and transmitters that come with it. Getting a high-resolution screen with poor cables will do you no good.

Why you need a good video quality for your backup camera

  1. It serves as backup assistance,
  2. Allows you to check if you have flat tires
  3. Allows you to see if there is an animal or object, which interferes when    you are backing up,
  4.   Check if you are blowing smoke.

A good backup camera has the following specs.

  1. Colored display – an option for colored or black and white so you can choose which works better depending on the condition.
  2. A mirrored image –  helps you perceive the picture based on your natural orientation.
  3. Electronic video signals – tend to display better with no interference but may vary in mileage.
  4. Wide field of vision – an average cam gets you at least 120 degrees,

Ease of Install

Wireless

When it comes to installation, there is no doubt that wireless cams have the most straightforward way. Usually, it’s just mount and plug, and you need to make a few modifications with the camera angle. The thing about the wireless connection is the transmission.

Usually, there is interference, or there’s some delay.so you might want to add an extension cord for the antennas. If you are looking for easy assembly and disassembly, we recommend you go with wireless.

Wired cams

Wired cams are better in transmission. Setting up is relatively easy; keeping the wires hidden and laid out neatly is challenging unless you are going to hire a professional. If the camera is a permanent upgrade for you, and you want the signal to be stable, we recommend it.

Check Price

Lastly, you have to determine how much money you’re willing to spend on a backup cam for your RV: the more specs a cam has, the more expensive.

So if you are in a bind, choose which will serve you more. We advise that you choose something durable, perhaps a cam with a high waterproofing rating, you want it to last long. A budget-friendly tool will get you at least one cam with high video quality, night vision, and at least a 120-degree viewing angle.

If you have the budget for more, you can get a complete set, with auto-dimming and recording specs, and can handle multiple cams if you want to upgrade in the future.

There are more high tech options where you can navigate using the touchscreen spec or remote control.

Field of View

The field view is essential because it defines how much width you can see through the camera. Too narrow or too wide may cause some distortion to the pictures, the minimum is a 90-degree field of view, but we recommend that you go for at least 120 degrees.

Mounting Options

Every cam and screen display comes with different mounting options. We can classify it into two: temporary and permanent.

Temporary mounting

Another way to mount your devices is temporary mounting. This mount option does not require any alteration to your automobile, for example, windshield suction cups; it merely sticks to the glass. It is best for Rv owners who plan to move the devices to another automobile.

Permanent mount

This mount requires you to drill a hole at the body of your R vehicles. Honestly, it’s not a disturbing sight, but if you plan to remove the camera, you need to cover it up.

Night Vision

You’d thank yourself if you purchased a backup camera with a night vision once you find yourself parking at late hours. Instead of relying on your wing mirrors, you can easily confirm if there’s an obstruction behind you. It comes handy for people who have astigmatism. The reflecting lights on the wing mirror don’t help change lanes or parking in reverse.

Infrared

As the night vision, the Infrared spec helps you see on pitch-black darkness. It illuminates objects in the dark. This spec is most often present on wireless cams.

The majority of backup cams utilize infrared LEDs. Each cam has different amounts of infrared and distance coverage, always check if the distance works for you.

Monitor Quality

The best backup camera will only work if your screen can accommodate the output of the camera. The usual kit comes with a screen display. Check the resolution of the camera, and the screen is compatible. Ideally, it should have at least 400 horizontal pixels.

You want a screen that is big enough. Typical monitor screen sizes range from 4″ to 7″. If you plan to use a split-screen to view multiple cams, you should get the monitor with the bigger screen.

Weather Resistance

Your back up cam is exposed to change in climate and temperature, especially if its surface mounted. To ensure that your cam will last a long time, always invest in a model that is weather-resistant and shockproof.

Waterproof and shockproof models cost more compared to ordinary cams, but it will pay off. Regular replacement and repair issue will cost more in the long run.
