Useful Best RV Backup Camera Reviews

Getting a useful backup camera to upgrade your R vehicles is worth the investment. The Backup Cam gives you added protection and a tool for convenience.

As an RV owner, you often spend time in RV parks and campgrounds, where there are a lot of things that may obstruct the driveway. It’s easy to navigate forward, but it’s a real challenge to go on the contrary. What we love about a backup camera is it lets you see what’s going on several feet behind the RV.

It comes handy on the road because it gives you a heads up whenever you are changing lanes. It lessens the probability of an accident. On the other hand, if you are still new in driving, it helps improve your driving skills.

If that sounds great to you, then you should check out the backup camera products we listed here, starting with our preferred products. It is always best to review the product you want to purchase for your RV.

Our 20 Best RV Backup Camera Reviews

Here is a list of the other RV backup cameras you may want to know that may be compatible with your R Vehicles.

1. DohonesBest Electronic Wireless Backup Cam

PROS

  • Able to view two cams
  • Highest waterproof rating
  • Perfect for night vision

CONS

  • Possible interference
  • Limited to large automobiles
  • Lose antenna

KEY SPECIFICATIONS

  • Number of cam you can hook – 2
  • IMG Sensor – CCD
  • Night vision Infrared – 12 Infrared LED
  • Field view – 150 degrees
  • Monitor size – 7″
  • Display Resolution – 960P
  • Warranty – 1 year

Overview

The honest best electronic wireless backup camera is one of the best cams in the market for RVs. This model uses an electronic broadcast signal that can transmit in a distance of up to 60ft with no interference. You can travel as fast as 110mph and expect no distorted IMG.

The cam comes with a 7″ monitor with two different mounting brackets; one for the dashboard and the other for the windshield of your RV. The monitor has a second cam provision and a split-screen feature to view both at the same time.

The installation process is easy. You can connect the monitor to the cigarette plug for power supply. The cam requires a system voltage of 12v – 24v, anything higher may damage the camera. If you want the camera to display on the monitor only during reverse, you can hook it on the different light.

We recommend this for you if you are particular to IMG quality. It emits a steady and vibrant picture during the day and a clear view during the night and is one of the cams with the widest viewing angle.

What we love about it

Durable

You can use your RVs on any day because the camera can withstand environmental strains. It has an IP69K waterproof rating. It is also fog resistant.

Dual Cam

You can put a combination of a rear view camera and an additional wing cam. The other cam is not wirelessly connected; you need to wire it to the display monitor.

IMG flip

You can switch the IMG to Normal Facing or Back mirror, but I don’t find any good use for the flip oriented spec.

Adjustable contrary guideline

You can turn the contrary guidelines on or off. Once you mount the cam, you might want to adjust the view to maximize the distance coverage. The cam viewpoint may affect the guidelines, you may be close to the object behind you, but in reality, you’re not.

You can make a few adjustments until you reach the most comfortable position for the guidelines, you can move it from left to right and even adjust the height, so you don’t have to change the cam manually.

Night vision

The cam comes with a 12 Infrared LED that helps you see images even during the night. The cam has a premium CCD Sensor Easy to hook up to combat bad weather.

Things they can improve

There are two things that we notice after some time of use. First, the signal is prone to interference from other devices. Second, you may encounter some glitching, better check your power supply. Customer services are very responsive, though, but we’d appreciate it if the cam already comes with a bigger wire for the power supply.

The fitting process is simple, but this model does come with a set of directions showing how to do the setup.

The Emmako wireless backup camera is the best backup camera if you drive a large automobile because you can surround your RVs with cams to remove all blind spots. We recommend this model for you if you are looking for a high definition cam that can assist you during the drive but can record the events around you when you’re sitting idly around the camp. It’s a plug and uses the gadget, so this is for you if you don’t like to bother yourself lining up a wire and assembling devices.

What we love about it

Split Screen ability

It has Split screen ability with two cams, and you can add a 2nd electronic wireless cam to the current screen (CH2).

Adjustable contrarying guideline

You can turn the reverse camera guidelines on or off and switch between the back view/side view/front view depending on where a second cam is mounted.

Night vision

Upgraded HD Backup camera with 13 LED IR Night Vision, Clear imaging, and it has the function of infrared induction. When the light is dark, the lamp will automatically turn on.

Things they can improve

Even electronic wireless cams have issues when it comes to interference. Most of the time, you can fix it through the antenna, but it’s somewhat challenging because the installation/directions manual lacks information. Maybe they can give a more detailed manual.

3. FOS07TASF Vision S Wireless Automobile Observation System

PROS

  • Touchscreen display
  • Night vision mode
  • Waterproof

CONS

  • Expensive

KEY SPECIFICATIONS

  • Number of cam you can hook – 4
  • IMG Sensor – CMOS
  • Night vision Infrared – 8 Infrared LED
  • Field view – 120 degrees
  • Monitor size – 7″
  • Display Resolution – 720P
  • Warranty – 2 years

Overview

This brand is a cutting edge product that runs in electronic wireless technology. The cam offers high definition resolution, motion detect, infrared night vision, and a 120-degree wide viewing angle.

The cam comes with a 7″ touch screen monitor at a resolution of 720p, and it comes with a power supply cable, lightweight with anti-glare features. Also, they include two mounting brackets for the screen: a windshield mount and an interior table stand.

The installation process is pretty easy; you need to drill holes on the RV surface to attach the shark fin cam while the screen has a bullet slot where the dot bullet of the bracket goes.

The FOS07TASF Vision S Wireless Automobile Observation System was designed to impress you. We recommend this for you if you are looking for a cam that offers more than the usual specs, such as motion detection and built-in microphone. It’s best if you are an owner of Large RVs who don’t mind spending more on high technology products.

What we love about it

Night vision; good for a camp trip

The spec that this brand takes pride in is the vision S technology. It gives coverage of 40ft of clear, precise, and sharp video, even in complete darkness. The cam has eight infrared and IR cut filters that allow you to see, even in the middle of the night.

HD touchscreen display

Another favorite spec is the screen; it lets you navigate through the system options through a touch screen, which is even better with button-operated screens. You can quickly look for the function you want instead of pushing the buttons many times before you can make adjustments.

Motion detect

The motion detect activates your display if there is any movement near your automobile. So, it serves as a backup assistant and a security cam.

Mic

When your cam is activated, you can hear the noise outdoors. It comes handy when reversing parking because you’re aware if someone is calling out or if there is an oncoming automobile.

Long-range Signal strength

The cam uses 2.4GHz digital wireless technology that provides a clear IMG with no interference. The signal transmission range of up to 492 ft when parked and still works for 50 ft at high speeds.

Durability

The cam is rated at IP65 for waterproof capabilities and also resists damage by outside elements exposure. The Vision S Cam System is ideal for travel trailers, 5th wheels, or commercial trucks.

Things they can improve

The product is no doubt advanced but always for a price, and you still have to buy a few more accessories before you can make it work. I guess the IMG is not that vibrant and sharp, but it’s just fair, not what you expect for an expensive unit.

Frequently Asked Questions

In searching for the best backup camera for your R vehicles, you must know all the factors you need to know. We laid down some tips, so you know if it’s best for your situation.

Types

If you have no idea which type you are going after, you should know that there are two types of RV backup cameras, the standalone backup camera and the camera with a dedicated screen.

The standalone backup camera

If your RV has a built-in GPS navigator located at the dash, you can use that as a screen display. Connect the backup camera, using an HDMI connector.

The backup camera with a dedicated screen

In some instances, the built-in screen in the RV is not compatible with the camera, or the current display is not good. If that’s the case, then it’s practical to buy a backup camera with a dedicated screen.

Among these two, we recommend you going after the backup camera with a dedicated screen or a complete set to ensure compatibility and proper pairing of devices.

Review the Video Quality

Knowing what’s going on behind your RV gives you a sense of relief when you need to back up a little. Having a backup camera with a fuzzy display does not fulfill its purpose. That’s why video quality is one of the things you need to look at when buying an RV cam.

There are many related components you may want to look at while checking the video quality apart from the screen display. You should check for the receiver cables and transmitters that come with it. Getting a high-resolution screen with poor cables will do you no good.

Why you need a good video quality for your backup camera

  1. It serves as backup assistance,
  2. Allows you to check if you have flat tires
  3. Allows you to see if there is an animal or object, which interferes when    you are backing up,
  4.   Check if you are blowing smoke.

A good backup camera has the following specs.

  1. Colored display – an option for colored or black and white so you can choose which works better depending on the condition.
  2. A mirrored image –  helps you perceive the picture based on your natural orientation.
  3. Electronic video signals – tend to display better with no interference but may vary in mileage.
  4. Wide field of vision – an average cam gets you at least 120 degrees,

Ease of Install

Wireless

When it comes to installation, there is no doubt that wireless cams have the most straightforward way. Usually, it’s just mount and plug, and you need to make a few modifications with the camera angle. The thing about the wireless connection is the transmission.

Usually, there is interference, or there’s some delay.so you might want to add an extension cord for the antennas. If you are looking for easy assembly and disassembly, we recommend you go with wireless.

Wired cams

Wired cams are better in transmission. Setting up is relatively easy; keeping the wires hidden and laid out neatly is challenging unless you are going to hire a professional. If the camera is a permanent upgrade for you, and you want the signal to be stable, we recommend it.

Check Price

Lastly, you have to determine how much money you’re willing to spend on a backup cam for your RV: the more specs a cam has, the more expensive.

So if you are in a bind, choose which will serve you more. We advise that you choose something durable, perhaps a cam with a high waterproofing rating, you want it to last long. A budget-friendly tool will get you at least one cam with high video quality, night vision, and at least a 120-degree viewing angle.

If you have the budget for more, you can get a complete set, with auto-dimming and recording specs, and can handle multiple cams if you want to upgrade in the future.

There are more high tech options where you can navigate using the touchscreen spec or remote control.

Field of View

The field view is essential because it defines how much width you can see through the camera. Too narrow or too wide may cause some distortion to the pictures, the minimum is a 90-degree field of view, but we recommend that you go for at least 120 degrees.

Mounting Options

Every cam and screen display comes with different mounting options. We can classify it into two: temporary and permanent.

Temporary mounting

Another way to mount your devices is temporary mounting. This mount option does not require any alteration to your automobile, for example, windshield suction cups; it merely sticks to the glass. It is best for Rv owners who plan to move the devices to another automobile.

Permanent mount

This mount requires you to drill a hole at the body of your R vehicles. Honestly, it’s not a disturbing sight, but if you plan to remove the camera, you need to cover it up.

Night Vision

You’d thank yourself if you purchased a backup camera with a night vision once you find yourself parking at late hours. Instead of relying on your wing mirrors, you can easily confirm if there’s an obstruction behind you. It comes handy for people who have astigmatism. The reflecting lights on the wing mirror don’t help change lanes or parking in reverse.

Infrared

As the night vision, the Infrared spec helps you see on pitch-black darkness. It illuminates objects in the dark. This spec is most often present on wireless cams.

The majority of backup cams utilize infrared LEDs. Each cam has different amounts of infrared and distance coverage, always check if the distance works for you.

Monitor Quality

The best backup camera will only work if your screen can accommodate the output of the camera. The usual kit comes with a screen display. Check the resolution of the camera, and the screen is compatible. Ideally, it should have at least 400 horizontal pixels.

You want a screen that is big enough. Typical monitor screen sizes range from 4″ to 7″. If you plan to use a split-screen to view multiple cams, you should get the monitor with the bigger screen.

Weather Resistance

Your back up cam is exposed to change in climate and temperature, especially if its surface mounted. To ensure that your cam will last a long time, always invest in a model that is weather-resistant and shockproof.

Waterproof and shockproof models cost more compared to ordinary cams, but it will pay off. Regular replacement and repair issue will cost more in the long run.
